The Monsters’ Emperor
Vincent Luk,
ong ago, there was a country in the far East, called China. The country was surrounded by a very long
and very great fortification. It had a name, called the Great Wall. Over hundreds of years, the Great
Wall protected China from invaders. A group of gentle monsters lived at the Great Wall. They had a
brave and reliable emperor, Zing.

Zing had a wife, Sally. She was going to have a baby. The couple was extremely excited. The
monsters’ kingdom was excited too, for they were about to have a new prince! Soon the adorable prince, Tim,
was born. The monsters decided to give a precious gift to the prince. So they went into the woods near the Great
Wall to look for something special.

On the way, the monsters saw a lot of aliens. The monsters didn’t want to be seen, so they hid in a bush.
They heard the aliens say, “King Ben, we can’t stay in the woods for long. We must move on and build a proper
home for the whole group.”
Alright, let’s find a nice place to be our home,” said King Ben, the leader of the aliens.
As soon as the monsters got back to the Great Wall, they told Zing what they saw and heard. Zing was
astonished. “Aliens!” he exclaimed. “I hope they are not coming to the Great Wall.”
The aliens were already climbing up the Great Wall! Luckily, the aliens fell from the Great Wall, one after
another, because it was very slippery on the wall.
The battle started. The Emperor Zing led the monsters to fight against the aliens. Zing and the monsters
each put on a suit of silver armour with sharp spikes. They rode on fast horses, holding swords and spears.
The Great Wall is our home. You can’t take it away from us!” cried Zing.
The aliens shot arrows. The monsters shot bombs. Zing and the monsters did not back off even when they
ran out of weapons. They were actually very worried about their home, the Great Wall and China. The aliens
started using ladders to climb up the Great Wall. Zing got terrified. He had no choice but to raise a white flag,
meaning “We surrender!”
Suddenly, a volcano nearby erupted. It spat out lava and ash. The aliens ran away, and so did the monsters.
Find a safe place to hide, everyone!” shouted Zing, not noticing a huge rock falling towards him. When he saw
the rock, he screamed for help, but it was too late. Zing was hit by the rock.
The volcano finally settled down. The aliens were all gone. The monsters found Zing dead under the rock,
and also found some parts of the Great Wall destroyed badly by the volcano. The monsters were very sad. They
didn’t mend the Great Wall because the damages let them remember Emperor Zing forever.
Years later, Tim the prince became the new emperor, who was as brave and reliable as his father. The
damages on the Great Wall had become a symbol of courage.
